Office Philosophy and Style of Treatment:

Dr. Waters grew up watching his father, an orthodontist in a small community in northern New York, build relationships with his patients by running a small, two chair practice. Like his dad, he enjoys and prefers to provide the majority of the patient care himself rather than delegating to assistants.

Dr. Waters encourages and welcomes parents in the treatment area. He is a teacher at heart. He likes talking and spending time with each patient to ensure that they are well informed at each step of their treatment and have ample time to ask questions.

In order to provide this personalized care, our practice remains small by design. We limit the number of patients in active treatment. We want to know you and your family by name. We will greet and recognize you when you arrive.

First Visit:

Many people are apprehensive at their first visit anywhere new. Major concerns when visiting an orthodontist for the first time may be: “How bad is it?” and “How much is it going to cost?” Orthodontic treatment is never an emergency situation where treatment must start in the next week or terrible things will happen. So try and relax.

The most important aspects of the initial visit are:

  • It’s a chance for you to get to know a little about us and our style of practice.
  • After a clinical exam and some simple diagnostic records (digital X-rays and photographs), you will have a chance to learn what orthodontic issues really exist and what all of the options are to address them. Often, situations that look quite bad are not all that difficult to make better. This and having the opportunity to get to know patients are what make our jobs fun.
  • If orthodontic treatment is appropriate at this time and desired, we will go over what would be involved in treatment, estimate the of time in treatment, go over costs, insurance, and payment options.
  • If it is too early to begin treatment, we will have you come in periodically to monitor progress until your child is ready.
